Step 1MAKE YOUR SELECTIONBy using the
search mechanism on this website, locate those sections of interview transcripts that are of potential interest.
Step 2PROVIDE THE NECESSARY INFORMATIONYou need to
email the Archive with a list of your chosen excerpt(s). Each excerpt on the list must be accompanied by:
- The full name of the interviewee.
- The four digit Archive number of the interview (found on the first page of every interview.)
- Time code in and out (including tape number) of the chosen excerpt(s). (For footage requests, we suggest leaving a five second buffer either side to facilitate editing.)
- Indicate whether DVD or VHS delivery format is required. All viewing copies are supplied at low resolution with time code displayed. (Only applies to footage requests.)
- A short summary of the project.
- The license parameters for use of the material.
There are three key factors which must be considered when licensing footage and these will form the basis of the fee:
TERRITORY - the geographic location of the world where the license rights will apply
USAGE TYPE - how the client intends to use the material, eg Footage could be intended for broadcast via television, cinema or in a non-broadcast form, eg an internal training video. Transcript excerpts could be used for books, articles or educational materials.
LICENCE PERIOD - This is how long the client intends to use the material. Standard licence periods are:
Up to 1 month, 1 year, 5 years, 10 years. Note: Additional licence periods may be made available upon request.
Step 3REQUEST APPROVALOnce all information has been received and your request has been approved by DVA, the Archive will:
a.
For footage usage: Advise you of the cost of producing a viewing copy of your selection (either low resolution VHS or DVD with displayed timecode) as well as license fees and master duplication costs should you proceed with the order. On ordering a viewing copy, you will be emailed a tax invoice with payment required prior to despatch. The viewing copy fee is based on the duration of the material and covers access, duplication, handling and postage.
To obtain a master copy, clients will need to email their final post-edit selection to the Archive and advise the delivery medium required, ie DV-CAM, Digital Betacam, DVD etc. A tax invoice and license contract will be emailed to you with a signed copy and payment to be received by the Archive prior to despatch of the master copy.
b.
For transcript usage: Advise you of the license fee applicable to your project. Should you proceed, a license contract will be sent by email with a signed copy with payment to be received by the Archive prior to the material being used.
